Brokeback Mountain jokes are funny again.
When the film first came out, jokes about gay cowboys were not the height of hilarity, but not completely lame. After a couple of weeks of endless references to "I can't quit you," by late-night talk show hosts and every person on television seeking to break vague homoerotic tension with some light humor, it became played out and hackneyed. Now, however, several weeks after the Oscars ceremony, the Brokeback jokes can once again be used -- but only in a very specific way.
Brokeback Mountain meta-humor is on the rise. Learn from the comedy experts: if a joke about something isn't funny anymore, a joke about a joke about something is funny. Just look at All Your Base. Perhaps one of the most successful (and by "successful" I mean widespread, not beneficial) internet memes, AYB was allowed by the laws of internet humor to be used without being called a n00b for upwards of many months. This is an extended lifetime compared to most internet jokes, such as the kitten-chasing Domo-kuns, or the O RLY? owl. Now, after a couple of years of silence, AYB can be brought back as satire of itself, and the internet as a whole. Meta is a very useful thing that way.
So, my intrawubbian friends, get back on that Brokeback horse and ride her into the ground, because I have a feeling that, like so many gems of comedy, even her meta stage cannot last very long. Soon, the joke, she will transform into a beautiful butterfly and fly, fly, fly away into the mists of time, where she can be pulled from the ether every three years or so, dusted off, and be said of, "Hey, remember Brokeback Mountain?"
Yes, you will quietly chuckle to yourself, yes I do.

So, I went out and upgraded my status symbol overpriced useless toy cell phone today and got the phone of my dreams - the Motorola Razr. Zomg, it couldn't be prettier unless it was, like, cobalt blue or something. So thin, so sleek, so shiny. A waste of money? Perhaps. But there's nothing like a shiny useless gadget to cheer you up.
